Hellingly Centre is a modern purpose built medium secure unit for people aged over 18 who have mental health problems and who have become involved with the criminal justice system. The partnership assess and manage people whose conditions cannot safely be treated other than in a secure or supervised environment. I worked over 2 days to create 2 installations with the residents there.

Hellingly Centre is a modern purpose built medium secure unit for people aged over 18 who have mental health problems and who have become involved with the criminal justice system. We assess and manage people whose conditions cannot safely be treated other than in a secure or supervised environment.

Hellingly Centre has three specialist wards, each looked after by staff from a range of different backgrounds.

DAY 1 Working together with my participants from ASH Ward to transform a shed in the beautiful outdoor area which has been created with a potting shed, raised beds, a chalet style wooden structure with seating and coffee area for residents to sit and be outdoors therapeutically. We used writing, stencils and I added freehand effects to make John Lennon’s portrait as shown in the image above.
